Athlete 1989-1991
As YVC’s female athlete of the year in 1991, Shuel dominated the NWAC basketball season as MVP of the East Region followed by MVP of the conference championship tournament. In her sophomore finale, Shuel’s 22 points and 14 rebounds led YVC to a 16-point victory over Clark in the title game. Playing on back-to-back NWAC championship teams that won 64 of 67 games, Shuel scored 885 points and shot 50.1 percent.
In her one season of volleyball as a sophomore, she earned first-team East Region honors and then second-team NWAC all-tournament distinction during a third-place trophy finish that capped a 40-win season.
In her three seasons across two sports, Shuel’s teams amassed a collective record of 104-11. The Selah High School graduate went on to star in volleyball and basketball at Central Washington University.
