The 2024 season ended with a whimper for the Yakima Valley baseball team, which dropped its final two games at home to first-place Spokane on Saturday afternoon. The Yaks, who lost a pair to the Sasquatch on the road last Wednesday, fell behind 3-1 after one inning on the way to an 11-1 defeat in game one.
First baseman
Brett Haggerty, who was named the NWAC's Hitter of the Week for April 29-May 5, drove home YVC's only run in the bottom of the first, scoring
Travis Finney. Haggerty and
Trevin Long each finished 2-for-3 and
Kyle Williamson added a double as the Yaks were outhit, 15-7.
Tyler Disch started the game, allowing seven hits and five runs over three innings, and
Brody Nanini pitched the final four innings, allowing four earned runs and eight hits while striking out two.
The Yaks also collected seven hits in game two, but they were unable to plate any runs, falling 10-0.
Lee Souza went 3-for-3 and
Peyton Rickard was 2-for-4, while Haggerty and Long delivered one hit apiece. Starter
Collin Hysell allowed five hits, six walks and five earned runs over five innings of work.
Daniel Perez gave up four hits, three walks and two earned runs over 1 1/3 innings, and

After a 4-0 start to NWAC East play, YVC won just three games in April and May to finish 7-21 (12-37 overall). Spokane, Blue Mountain and Columbia Basin will represent the East in the May 17-19 Super Regionals.Â
