The Yakima Valley men's basketball team broke out of its recent slump in a big way on Saturday night when it outscored Wenatchee by 20 points in the second half on the way to an 87-63 win at Sherar Gymnasium.
Four players scored in double figures and two more had double-doubles as the Yaks cruised past the Knights by shooting 60.7% (37-of-61) from the floor and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line.
Jose Brown scored 20 points, Clay Delp posted 18 points, 10 assists and five steals, and
Jaymon Wright scored 16 and pulled down 10 rebounds, helping the Yaks improve to 3-6 in the NWAC East (9-12 overall).
Kenzel Massey added 16 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals, while Brown also delivered four assists and three rebounds, helping YVC take down Wenatchee for a second time this season. Other highlights included
Zion Jones and
Levi Dorsett each scoring six points and

YVC was coming off a difficult outing last Wednesday against Blue Mountain, when it fell 90-79 at home. The Yaks fell behind by 16 points at halftime and couldn't climb their way back against the Timberwolves, who swept the season series. Delp led the offense with 31 points, six assists and three steals, Massey had 17 points, six rebounds and three steals, and Wright posted 14 points as YVC shot 48.5% (32-of-66) from the field. Jones put up eight points and eight rebounds off the bench and Brown added seven points, three assists and three steals.
The Yaks will look to keep their playoff hopes alive Wednesday with a home matchup with Treasure Valley, which sits at third place in the standings, just one game ahead of YVC, Big Bend and Blue Mountain (all 3-6). The Yaks will then travel to first-place Walla Walla on Saturday.
