A difficult campaign came to a close for the Yakima Valley women's basketball team last Wednesday with an 83-55 home loss to Big Bend. After falling behind by eight points after the first quarter, the Yaks managed to keep things close going into halftime. But the Vikings went on a 44-28 run down the stretch to send the Yaks to their sixth straight defeat.
Britany Phillips posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and
Madisen King added 16 points and nine rebounds off the bench as YVC shot 35.6% (21-of-59) from the field.
Mikayla Christiansen scored eight points,
Abby Gilbert had five points and six assists, and
Jada Mendoza delivered five rebounds, three points and three steals. The Yaks shot 90.9% from the free-throw line, with King making all four of her attempts and Phillips connecting on all three of hers.
After a 2-0 start to league play in early January, YVC claimed just one league victory the rest of the way to finish 3-11 in the NWAC East (8-19 overall).
