The Yakima Valley volleyball team extended its unbeaten run through NWAC East play on Wednesday with a narrow victory over Spokane at Sherar Gymnasium. After winning the first two sets, the first-place Yaks surrendered back-to-back sets and were pushed to a tiebreaker before ultimately prevailing 25-14, 25-18, 23-25, 17-25, 15-3.
Lauren Chamberlain and
Alivia Colbert recorded nine kills apiece and
Lauren Jensen posted eight to help YVC improve to 11-0 in conference play at 24-5 overall.
Portlynn Stacey and
Vilomena Cavuilati tallied seven kills each, and
Aydyn Anderson delivered 20 assists to go with 14 digs and five kills, helping the Yaks win for the 13
th time in their past 14 matches. Other highlights from Wednesday's win included
Malia Wheeler with 19 assists and 13 digs, and Colbert with 18 digs.
YVC had a much easier time with Blue Mountain on Oct. 23, cruising to a 25-16, 25-12, 25-15 road victory. Colbert threw down 12 kills, Chamberlain had eight, and Cavuilati added six as the Yaks posted a .287 kill percentage. Jensen and Stacey added five kills apiece, Anderson posted 17 assists and six digs, and Wheeler notched 13 assists and five digs.
Kamree Mills posted a team-high seven digs and
Mireya Kawaguchi scooped six on a night where YVC was rarely threatened by the Timberwolves.
The Yaks, who have already clinched a playoff spot and have the inside track to the NWAC East title, visit Wenatchee on Friday. With a two-game lead over second-place CBC, a win would guarantee YVC at least a share of the conference championship.
