The Yakima Valley softball team made up for a slow start to the preseason over the weekend, winning all four games at an NWAC Crossover event in Pasco to improve to 6-8 overall.
In game one against Douglas,
Kylee Bradley broke open a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh with a three-run homer, sending the Yaks to a 6-3 victory. Bradley finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and
Ellie Urlacher went 3-for-4 with an RBI double.
Riley Eckhardt and
Cheyenne Justice added two hits apiece to support pitcher
Kassidy Van Soest, who struck out eight and allowed 10 hits over seven innings.
Van Soest came back in the afternoon to strike out six over three scoreless innings as YVC came back from two runs down to defeat Umpqua, 7-5. She also hit an inside-the-park home run and finished 2-for-5 with three RBI at the plate. Bradley stayed hot, going 2-for-4 with a solo homer, while
Abbygale Sheridan and Urlacher delivered RBI singles.
Kathryn Prest pitched the first four innings, striking out three and allowing seven hits and three earned runs.
The Yaks found a way to come back again in Sunday's game one, scoring one run in the fifth and two in the sixth to steal a 5-4 win away from Clark.
Addison Flynn delivered an RBI triple, Sheridan smoked a two-run RBI double, and Eckhardt and Justice both had a pair of base hits. Van Soest continued her weekend dominance with an 11-strikeout performance, allowing five hits and two earned runs to earn the complete game victory.
YVC saved its best for last, scoring eight runs in the first three innings on the way to an 11-3 win over Skagit Valley on Sunday afternoon.
Madalyn Telles started things off with a two-run single in the first, followed by an RBI double by Justice in the second. The Yaks took advantage of two Cardinal errors in the third to take an 8-3 lead and added three more runs in the fifth on an additional miscue, one of four in the game. Van Soest earned her third win of the weekend, striking out four and allowing two hits and no runs over 2 1/3. Prest started the game and gave up one earned run and two hits over 2 2/3.
The Yaks (6-8 overall) have a week off before starting conference play at home against Spokane and Big Bend on March 20-21.
