Sophomores
Garren Gooler (Baseball) and
Brynn Rees (Women's Soccer) captured YVC's top athletic honors for 2025-26 at the college's annual athletic awards ceremony held in the Kaminski Conference Center.
Gooler, an Outfielder from Naches Valley HS, received the "Larry Densley" award which goes to the outstanding male athlete of the year. He was named to the All-NWAC and East Region First Teams and also received an East Region Gold Glove award. For the season, he batted .349 with 14 doubles and 4 home runs while being second in the entire NWAC in hits (61) and third in RBI (47). During the week of February 16-22, he was selected as the conference's "Hitter of the Week." A two-time recipient of the baseball program's "Team Captain" award, Gooler was selected as an NWAC Academic All Star and has signed with the University of Portland to continue his playing career.
Rees, a Midfielder from Viewmont HS in Centerville, UT, earned the "Mary
Sherar" Award which signifies the outstanding female athlete of the year. She was named the East Region "Offensive Player of the Year" and selected as a First Team member. She finished third in the entire NWAC in goals scored (14) and second in assists (9) and total points (37). For her career, she is the women's soccer program's career leader in goals scored (28) and total points (68). A two-time recipient of the program's "Best Offensive Player" award, Rees was also named to the All-NWAC Academic Team.
