The 2020 season marks Chuck Bodeen’s 15th campaign at the helm of the Yak Fastpitch program. In those 15 seasons, he has sent 27 student-athletes on to four-year programs and 32 players have been named to an NWAC All-East Region team. Additionally,18 players have been named to the NWAC All-Academic team.
Coach Bodeen brings a great wealth of coaching experience to YVC. Much of his experience is in baseball, where he moved up the ranks from Little League to middle school to high school assistant to high school head coach, serving in that position for a combined ten years at Selah and Eisenhower High Schools. He also coached basketball and football.
Family brought Coach Bodeen into the fastpitch arena, as he began coaching his daughters’ fastpitch teams. After retiring in 2005 from a distinguished career in public education in both teaching and adminsitration, he was named the head coach of the Yaks’ fastpitch program. Family is the foundation of Coach Bodeen’s life. He was married to Lena for 42 years before she was tragically taken from us in 2014. He enjoys being surrounded by the families of his two daughters, Megan and Gretchen, and his eight grandchildren.
Chuck has always lived an active lifestyle. He has completed 46 marathons, including running the Boston Marathon seven times. He was blessed to run the Boston Marathon with his daughter Megan in 2000, and his daughter Gretchen in 2001. In 1987, Chuck completed a successful ascension of Mt. Rainier! Chuck and his family love hiking, especially at Mt. Rainier. He and Gretchen have twice completed the Wonderland Trail, a 93-mile trail that follows the entire circumference of Mt. Rainier National Park.
Coach Bodeen earned a B.A. in education at Central Washington State College, an MA in School Administration and Athletic Administration from Seattle Pacific University, and is a Certified Athletic Administrator.
