The Yakima Valley women's basketball team ended a five-game losing streak last Wednesday against last-place Blue Mountain, overcoming an early deficit to win 77-64 at home.
Madisen King led four players in double figures with 21 points, and
Britany Phillips added 15 points and 13 rebounds as YVC outscored the Timberwolves by 10 points in the second quarter after falling behind by three in the first.
Abby Gilbert delivered 11 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals,
Mikayla Christiansen had 10 points and five boards, and
Jada Mendoza delivered nine points, eight assists and five rebounds.
Clarissa Schrock put up seven points, three rebounds and two assists off the bench as YVC shot 40.5% (30-of-74) from the floor.
The Yaks narrowly made it two in a row Saturday against Wenatchee, but the Knights held off a late charge to defeat YVC, 70-64. Phillips scored 17 to pace the offense, while Gilbert added 16 points, four assists and three steals. Christiansen tallied 15 points, King posted 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, and Mendoza put up four points and five steals. YVC was outrebounded 29-22 and shot 40% (22-of-55) from the field.
Now 3-5 in the NWAC East (8-13 overall), the Yaks will take on Treasure Valley at home on Wednesday night before traveling to second-place Walla Walla on Saturday.
