Yakima Valley College, under the direction of first-year head coach
Kyle Krustangel, won the 2016 NWAC Baseball Championship held in Longview, WA during the Memorial Day weekend. It is the 22nd conference championship in the storied history of the program, and the first since 1983.
The Yaks defeated Everett Community College 5-2 in the championship game behind five shutout innings by Tournament MVP pitcher
Chris Petrosie.
Dakota Weindell came in for Petrosie and turned in three strong innings of relief pitching for YVC. At the dish, Leftfielder
Parker Depasquale was 2-5 with a double and 2 RBI and first baseman Conner Anderson was 2-4 with 1 RBI. Also, third baseman
Kyler Brudwick had 2 RBI and rightfielder
Alec Chaney scored 2 runs.
"We had a great season this year," Krustangel said. "The guys have worked their tails off for nine straight months and have earned everything they got."
The Yaks finished the season with an overall record of 34-17
