The Yakima Valley women's basketball team got off to a fast start in region play this past week, beating CBC and North Idaho to kick off the region season.
On Wednesday night, the Yaks hosted the fifth-ranked Columbia Basin Hawks to Crosier Court in Sherar Gymnasium and won the high-scoring game 101-87. Â YVC forced the tempo all game long and wore down the Hawks in the second half behind a 29-17 third quarter outburst. Â For the game,
Alexis Perez led the Yaks with 31 points and also contributed 5 assists. Â
Sequoia Swan (24 points) and
Sammi Blodgett (23 points)Â padded the Yaks' scoring column as well. Â Swan also contributed 6 rebounds and Blodgett had 6 assists to help pace the home team. Â All 12 Yaks saw playing time and contributed to the cause of getting the Yaks off to a great league start.

On Saturday afternoon, YVC took their show on the road to square off against the North Idaho Cardinals in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Â
Sammi Blodgett erupted for 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals in an all-around performance to lead the Yaks to a 86-74 victory. Â
Sequoia Swan posted a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Yaks. Â For the game, YVC shot 48% and held North Idaho to 30% shooting with an active team defense and raised their record to 2-0 in Eastern Region play.
