The Yakima Valley soccer team surged into a fourth-place tie in the NWAC East on Saturday with a 3-1 home win over Treasure Valley.
Brynn Rees scored two goals and
India Wiemers added another tally late, helping the Yaks win their second in a row and improve to 4-6-1 in conference play (6-6-1 overall).
YVC fell behind 1-0 in the 14
th minute before Rees evened the score in the 28
th on a pass from
Gracie Pederson. Rees scored an unassisted goal two minutes into the second half to increase her season total to 12, tied for second among all NWAC scorers. Wiemers put the finishing touches on the win in the 89
th minute on an assist by
Alexia Lee.
YVC won the shooting battle 11-3 as Rees put three shots on frame. Lee, Wiemers and Pederson each had two shots, while
Ayleen Matias and
Jorja Barbee also delivered offensive chances. Goalkeeper
Meadow Stone contributed three saves.
The Yaks will finish the regular season on Wednesday at last-place Wenatchee, looking to complete the fall campaign with a winning record. Only the top three teams in the East qualify for the NWAC Championships, which start Nov. 5 and wrap up Nov. 16 in Tukwila.
