Alexia Lee scored a hat trick,
Brynn Rees netted a pair of goals and
Kira Hampshire finished with a goal and an assist last Wednesday as the Yakima Valley soccer team finished the season on a resounding note, defeating Wenatchee 6-0 on the road.
The Yaks' third victory in a row gave them sole possession of fourth place in the NWAC East, two games behind Walla Walla for the conference's third and final playoff spot. YVC (5-6-1 league, 7-6-1 overall) outshot Wenatchee 49-5 for the game, with Rees and Lee each putting six shots on frame.
Jorja Barbee delivered four shots on goal, while
India Wiemers and
Jarisley Sanchez each had three. Goalkeeper
Meadow Stone recorded four saves to earn her third clean sheet in conference play.
Lee got things started with a goal in the 10
th minute on a pass from Hampshire. Rees took a pass from Barbee in the 19
th minute to make it 2-0 and Sanchez connected with Lee in the 25
th to give the Yaks a 3-0 halftime lead. Rees scored an unassisted tally midway through the second half and Hampshire did the same 10 minutes later. Lee put the finishing touches on the win with an unassisted goal in the 87
th minute.
Rees finished the season with 14 goals, good for third in the NWAC and is the program record holder for goals in a career with 28. Her nine assists rank second and should help land her a spot in the NWAC All-Star Game on Nov. 16. She also finishes her YVC career tied for first in career points with 37.
Spokane, Columbia Basin and Walla Walla will represent the East in the NWAC Championships, which begin Wednesday. The championship game will be Nov. 16 in Tukwila.
