The Yakima Valley volleyball team exacted its revenge against first-place Treasure Valley on Friday, earning a five-set victory and a share of the regular season NWAC East championship. The Yaks were swept by the Chukars on the road last month, but they were able to ride the high of playing at home in the rematch, winning 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, 18-25, 15-10. The 2025 region crown is the third in program history, joining the 1989 and 1990 squads.
Ava Swan delivered a team-high 18 kills and
Lauren Chamberlain and
Patricia Hendrick each threw down 11 kills to pace the offense.
Ailianna Quaempts notched eight kills,
Sienna Black had six and
Joleen Jaeger served up 30 assists as YVC posted a .153 kill percentage.
Aubrey Tornow led the defense with 24 digs, while
Malia Wheeler,
Kamree Mills and Swan added 12 digs apiece. Jaeger scooped 12 digs and Wheeler contributed 14 assists to help YVC win its seventh match in a row and 14
th in the past 15 outings.
The victory moved the Yaks into a first-place tie with the Chukars at 13-1 in conference play (25-8 overall), but they had to settle for the East's No. 2 seed when the NWAC Championships begin Saturday. YVC will take on Centralia, the No. 3 seed from the West, at 2 p.m. in the South Regional at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass, Oregon.
The Yaks faced another tough test earlier in the week when they visited fifth-place Columbia Basin. Despite winning the first two sets, the team had to hold on in five sets, eventually prevailing 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 24-26, 15-10. Swan posted a match-high 24 kills and Quaempts added 14 as the Yaks posted a .183 kill percentage. Chamberlain helped the cause with eight kills, while
Lofi Talia had six and Black had five. Jaeger delivered 31 assists, Wheeler had 19 assists and 16 digs, and Mills put up a team-high 27 digs. Hendrick and Tornow each helped the defense with 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
