The Yakima Valley men's basketball team is still in search of its first preseason win after falling to NDN Time Athletics 103-85 at Sherar Gymnasium on Nov. 22. The Lower Yakima Valley-based basketball program is affiliated with the Yakama Nation and features a number of former YVC players, including Quentin Raynor, who scored a game-high 29 points.
Fred Brown and Markeith Brown scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, helping NDN Time pull away in the second half after holding a three-point halftime lead. Both players hit five 3-pointers and Raynor had seven as NDN Time shot 52.6% (20-of-38) from behind the arc and 55.6% overall.
For the Yaks,
Shane Rivera led four players in double figures with 18 points, while
Kal-El Gentles added 17 points and eight rebounds.
Cesar Hernandez scored 12, TraVaughn Brigance scored 11 off the bench and
Jaymon Wright-Brooks posted nine in a reserve role.
Koby McClure had nine points, four rebounds and four assists, and
D'Anthony Rabb pulled down eight rebounds as YVC shot 53% (35-of-66) from the floor.
Starting Friday, the Yaks (0-2) will play three days in a row at the Sasquatch Classic in Spokane.
