Three athletes and one team were inducted into Yakima Valley College's Athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 in a formal ceremony at the Kaminski Conference Center that was very well attended. Nikki Richardson, Alyson Rollins, and Ryan Rostvold joined the 1964 Football Team in the athletic department's fifth induction ceremony since the inaugural 1984 event.
Richardson was YVC's first All-American volleyball player to earn first-team honors by the AVCA and piled up 1,009 career kills over two seasons in 1990 and 1991. She was named to the all-tournament first-team as a freshman and sophomore.
Richardson's 435 kills as a freshman led YVC to a third-place NWAC trophy in 1990. She followed with 574 kills (4.55 per set) as a sophomore when YVC took home fourth-place hardware from the conference tournament. Richardson still owns the program's top single-match performances for kills with 42 (five games) and 30 (four) during her All-American season. She was also named YVC's female athlete of the year for 1991-92.
As YVC's most prolific scorer over the 50-year history of women's basketball, Rollins amassed 1,153 points in two seasons and helped her teams win 52 games with an NWAC championship her freshman year. As a sophomore, Rollins was the East Region MVP while averaging 20.4 points and her single-game school record of 42 points stood for 25 years. She was also MVP of the NWAC's sophomore all-star game. In addition to her YVC record 451 field goals, Rollins' other career totals included 110 3-pointers, 301 rebounds and 249 assists.
Rostvold brought prolific scoring skills to Sherar Gym and played 52 games over two seasons YVC, piling up over 1,000 points and helping the Yaks capture the NWAC championship as a freshman. Averaging 19.3 points during his first campaign, Rostvold collected three conference honors – East Division first team, NWAC All-Academic and All-Tournament in the conference tournament. In the title game against Green River, he hit three consecutive 3-pointers to spark a come-from-behind 80-78 victory. Rostvold upped his average to 21.9 during his sophomore season, again earning East Division first-team honors and also being named MVP of the NWAC's all-star game.
With a conference championship and national ranking, YVC's 7-1 record stood as the most wins in the program's 42-year history. In his final season as head coach, Bill Faller and his assistants Bob Everson and Les Vierra led an offense that averaged 234 yards rushing and a defense that set a conference record with 16 interceptions. Marquette High School graduate Dave Wuitschick led the team in rushing, receiving and scoring and Steve Keeler from Davis earned two of Faller's top awards. Those two along with Butch Grant, Tom Healy and Wilbur Langston were selected for first-team all-conference honors. With a 12-7 victory in Week 4, Yakima Valley ended Columbia Basin's 30-game win streak and handed the Hawks their first loss at home in five years. Powered by two 45-point games, the offense set program records for points and touchdowns. The defense matched the dominance with 27 takeaways.
