After winning eight of its past nine games overall, the Yakima Valley baseball team hoped to make it 10 out of 11 Saturday at Walla Walla. But the Warriors finally found an answer for the streaking Yaks in game one, sending them to an 11-3 defeat.
YVC bounced back quickly in game two on the strength of a two-hit gem by starter
Tannon Marsalis, who led YVC to a 2-0 victory. Marsalis struck out 14 and allowed just one walk to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Jace Fillmore laced an RBI double and
Jackson Walker scored on a wild pitch in the third inning to provide the only offense in the game.
Â
In game one, the Warriors got to starter
Boston Snyder for four runs in the second, chasing him from the game after 2 1/3. He struck out five and allowed four hits and five earned runs to suffer his first loss of the season.
Austin Dillon was solid in relief, striking out three over 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Cody Densley had a two-RBI single in the fourth as YVC finished with seven hits.
Â
The Yaks hosted the Warriors earlier in the week, earning wins of 9-0 and 5-4 at Parker Faller Field. Starter
Jacob Troast pitched well the opener, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out five over eight innings.
Ay Italasano pitched a scoreless ninth, while Walker finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and
Garren Gooler added three RBI.
Â
YVC trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the sixth in game two, but Gooler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game. Fillmore scored on a wild pitch in the eighth and
Will Feltus delivered an RBI single in the ninth after the Warriors tied the game in the top of the ninth. Feltus went 3-for-6 and three others — Walker, Densley and
Diego Dickson — had a pair of hits to lead a 12-hit attack. Walker picked up the win in relief despite allowing three hits and two walks, while starter
Andre Cephers allowed two earned runs and four hits, and struck out five in 5 1/3.
Gus Musial gave up two hits and no runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Â
The Yaks (6-2 NWAC East, 22-8 overall) will host Big Bend for two games Wednesday, followed by a road doubleheader against the Timberwolves on Saturday.
