It was a busy weekend for the Yakima Valley softball team, which won four of six nonleague games from Friday through Sunday to improve to 11-9 overall. After sweeping Blue Mountain on April 5 to even their NWAC East record at 4-4, the Yaks made it three wins in a row with a 6-3 triumph over Clark in the first of two Friday home games.
YVC scored two runs in the first, two in the third and two in the sixth to support pitcher
Briley Ingram, who earned the complete-game victory, allowing three earned runs and six hits while striking out nine.
Glory Estabrook went 3-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI doubles and
Kylee Bradley added a pair of RBI singles as YVC outhit Clark, 8-6.
Estabrook pitched well in game two, striking out 10 and allowing four earned runs and five hits, but it wasn't enough as the Yaks fell 4-2.
Abbygale Sheridan went 3-for-4,
Linnea Butler went 2-for-4 with an RBI,
Sami Staley went 2-for-3 with a triple, and
Darcee Isidoro contributed an RBI single.
The next two days, the Yaks took part in the NWAC Crossover tournament, taking on Edmonds and Centralia on Saturday at Gateway Sports Complex and then hosting Umpqua and Shoreline on Sunday at Kiwanis Park in Yakima. Official stats weren't available for YVC's 10-9 loss to Edmonds, but the team managed to bounce back in the afternoon for a 5-4 extra-inning win over Centralia.
After falling behind 4-1 through 4 ½ innings, the Yaks scored one run in each of the final four frames to escape with a victory. Stamp went 4-for-4 with a homer and two RBI,
Amidie Ochoa went 2-for-2 with an RBI and Sheridan drew a bases loaded walk in the eighth. Estabrook pitched the first four innings and Ingram finished out the game, combining for seven strikeouts and nine hits allowed.
The Yaks returned east of the mountains Sunday and turned up the offense, scoring 34 runs in their two wins. In a 10-1 victory over Umpqua,
Bailee Hancock went 2-for-2 with four RBI, Bradley went 2-for-2 with two RBI doubles and three runs scored, and Stamp was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Staley added a two-RBI double, while Estabrook struck out five and allowed three hits over four innings to pick up the win.
Tylee Cossitt pitched a scoreless fifth to close it out.
The YVC offense really found its groove in Sunday's game two, erupting for 22 hits in a 24-4 win over Shoreline. Eight players collected multiple hits and three players had four or more RBI as the Yaks scored four runs in the first inning, 10 in the fourth and six in the fifth. Cossitt went 4-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored, Bradley was 3-for-4 with five RBI and three runs, and
Linnea Butler was 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBI.
Hancock added a solo homer, Stamp and Sheridan each went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs, Estabrook went 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs, and
Madison Morrison went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Ingram, Estabrook and Cossitt shared the pitching duties, with Estabrook striking out seven over three innings.
