It's been a tough stretch for the Yakima Valley soccer team over the past month after losing nearly half of its starting lineup due to injury. But the Yaks are doing their best to power through, picking up their third conference win last Saturday against Wenatchee.
Avah Farias scored two first-half goals and
Nataly Pacheco had a goal and an assist as YVC took a 3-0 halftime lead on the way to a 4-0 victory.
Addie Messner added a late insurance goal on a pass from
Jewelisa Landa and goalkeeper
Ariana Araiza collected eight saves as the Yaks outshot the Knights 25-13 on the afternoon. Pacheco, who led off the scoring in the 13
th minute and assisted Farias in the 39th, finished with a team-high 10 shots, including seven on goal, while Farias put three of her four shots on frame.
Wednesday's rematch with Treasure Valley — a team the Yaks defeated earlier this season — produced few highlights, however, resulting in a 9-0 road defeat. The Chukars scored four goals in the first half and held the short-handed Yaks to just two shots on goal for the game. Araiza recorded 14 saves, but it wasn't enough to halt the Chukars' attack, which delivered 40 shots for the game.
Now 3-6-1 in the NWAC East, (3-8-1 overall), YVC will finish out the season with a home game against Columbia Basin on Saturday, followed by a road trip to first-place Spokane on Oct. 28.
