Coach 1932-1947

Considered by many the "father" of Yakima Valley College athletics, Hopf served as teacher, coach, and Dean of Students from 1932-1968.  YVC's student union building, the Hopf Union Building, was named in his honor.

During the "growing" years at the college, "Bim" was always available when a coach was needed.  He was the basketball coach for three years, 1932-1935, compiling a 27-17 record.  He also coached track and directed the college to its first state junior college championship in 1935.  Track teams won a string of Northwest track titles under his direction through the late thirties.

In 1947, YVC fielded its first baseball team and won its first baseball championship.  The coach, of course, was Bim Hopf.  Although he coached it only for one year, baseball was the sport that he loved most, and he continued as an avid YVC fan until his death in 1982.  The baseball Inspirational Trophy is awarded each year in his name.  He was inducted into the NWAC Hall of Fame in 2006.
