The YVC ace pitcher, originally from Pullman High School, compiled a 19-1 record during his two NWAC championship seasons of 1976 and 1977.  He was named to the All-Region and All-Conference teams after his sophomore season.  Hinrichs played for head coach Bill Faller at Yakima and posted an ERA of 1.53 during his sophomore year when he struck out 96 batters in 94 innings pitched.  His only career loss was in the first game of the 1977 NWAC championship tournament but he returned to pitch and win the final game.  He was the YVC Athlete of the Year recipient in 1977 and went on to pitch two years for Washington State University under Coach Bobo Brayton.  He played six seasons of minor league ball in the San Francisco Giants organization.  Phil was inducted into the NWAC Hall of Fame in 2003.
